Veteran Racers,

We have lost a few of our closest friends in this thing we do and I would like to honor them with a small decal later this month at Ely. Forget who it was that lost his life at BBORR as well as all our other SSCC and any MKM / Roger Ward race veterans who lost their lives. Please send me any names you may remember and I will add them to the decal.

Thank you,

Dennis @ Team Pantera Racing.

I will ask Bunny if we can have a moment of silence SS weekend in memory of the 18 ORR veterans and ORR organizers, Roger Ward and Steve Waldman.

That would be a final roll call for our friends who are no longer with us.

Here are the names;

Steve Waldman

Roger Ward

Carl Young

Frank Gerum

Phil Bowser

Rick DeKneef

Merle Hill

Dick Drenske

Gary Hall

Grant Stockwell

Ellis Woumnm

Steve Donegan

Greg Davis

Dinah Alexander

Terry Herman

Rodney Armstrong

Chuck Schafer

Bud Ridenour

If anyone notices any misspelled names please let me know ASAP.

Thanks,,

"Rodger" Ward is the correct spelling.

Race incidents:

Bud Pettisani (BBORR)

The woman who died in the 1988 race (1st fatality), can't remember her name.

Non-race passings:

Richard & Marcia Foreman, champions of the 150 class in the early days in their mighty Mercedes, didn't die in a race but are now deceased.

Bob Crippen, half of the famous "Two Guys" racing team with Frank Anderson in their 3rd Gen big block Camaro.

Craig Loeck, a veteran of over 100 ORRs.

Don Pylman (Thunderbird Cup Car).

RIP to all.

Steve Donegans' widow, Melanie (Mel) is going to be at the finish line Sunday with Steve's friend and co-driver Alvin Mann to hold a sort-of memoriam for Steve after the rookies have run. Here is what Mel has shared with me:

" I plan to take Steve’s ashes to the finish line on sat evening with Alvin and his sister and niece.. on Sunday after the rookie celebration Tom king wanted to say a few words and invite anyone else to also. I will have waivers and wristbands for anyone not racing to get to the finish pits on Sunday. Just let me know how many. Then we will meet back at Sam's Town and go to the race banquet. I welcome all of Steve’s friends that would like to celebrate his life and love of racing with us".
I'm not racing but I will be at the finish line on Sunday as well. I plan to meet Mel Saturday night to get my wrist band for the pits.
if anyone has questions for Mel, I can pass it on or try to get you in touch with Mel directly.
See you guys at the finish line and hope everyone has a safe race.

Hey MD -

Thanks so much for organizing this!  Glad to see our departed ORR friends honoured.

Had actually planned to attend SSCC this September, but instead off to the UK again to attend to my late Father's estate.

If someone could grab a couple of the decals and pop them in the post to me I would really appreciate it.

Email me for mailing address ... lastname 4 AT earthlink DOT net

Thanks!

Jane
