Seeing how crowded the 150 class can get, it seems like a decent idea.  Spread the 150 class out a bit and make another opportunity for trophies.  It probably needs to be based on how many people would actually enter that class though.  That speed is too fast for my blood right now.

The real question is how many people would enter a 155 class if offered?

Or maybe offer it up as a one-time thing only and see who bites.  If enough people enter, then make it a regular class again.

I'd be for it.

LOVE THE IDEA ! ... (Oh man my tire "budget" just went sky high)

I understand some of the rules in Super Sport, roll cage vs bar, fire system ... But I get lost with some of the others collapsible steering column ? (any modern vehicle has a collapsible section), fuel cell (since the truck side tank issues in the 80's almost all vehicles stock tanks are "bomb proof"  / roll over safe ... or maybe I've only seen hack job fuel cell installs) .. Many new cars are capable of FAST speeds safely ...

Anyhow I'm IN ! as budget allows

Well ya know I would have to find the right kind of car to run that fast. My old 84 Ghost Monte topped out around 150 way out of tech for the tires i was running, only an H rating, so I would have to upgrade and for an old school-er like me the only 15" tires that would qualify that fast now are big track Cup Eagle's. plus this poor ol man just doesn't have the budget to build something that fast and I would not let anyone loan me a car to qualify for that kind of pace because I just couldn't afford to replace it.     O    Ps it would be fun to see though.

Rick I am all for the idea and I kinda like the idea of a return of the 165 class also if there are those that would like to attempt trying to run that hard but I would also like to keep our current format of starting with the 150's and working down to the lower classes then running the fastest classes last so that we don't have a debacle like the first event that I attended where most of the  competitors did not get a run at all and several friends and I sat there all day only to see one NHP car running north.   O

Owen:  I believe you meant the 155mph class?  It would precede the 150mph class and don't think it would slow thing down at all as there would be no more than say 5-6 entrants.  I think its quite feasible within the bounds of the grand sport class and tech speed of 165, but that could be tweaked to say 170mph?  That is 36 minutes vs. 34 min 49 secs.  A little over a minute difference?  Are you still in???  Spread the work, I got Frank K looking into it.

Rick I did mean that I would like to see a return of the 165 class also . My thinking is that 165 and 155 would be part of the super sport class. when I was part of the camera crew in 93 we were starting with the 165  and continuing on down till the 95 then the unlimited class followed by the 180 and 170 classes but the next race we had a lil 65 mustang go off at my hill that burned to the ground , and the may 93 race Mike Broadrick was running a BMW M series at 165 he left a dead dog [tire carcass] in the middle of omega that when it failed it sounded like he windowed the block.  After the race we my friend Ken Thomas and I are headed to finish when we came up to him loading the car on the trailer.  "hey man you were flying when you went by what happened " "go look at other side of car" the left rear quarter was shredded and he was just coming out of the trailer after a quick change out of his fire suit. oops! but I am all for it.  O

Owen:  Thanks for keeping the discussion going.  I had made a similar proposition to Blue to take to the board.  That is;  carve out the 150mph, add 155mph as well as the 160mph class and make it the super sport class without the expensive additions, such as fuel cell and roll cage.  The 170 and 180 class would be labeled as pro sport.  Just received an estimate for conversion of my vette to the super sport class.  He responded that he stopped at $20,000.00 and thought he might ask me before he proceeded.  You might see how this would block most from competing in the upper classes.   Somehow I would like to see the Silver State Inc. reward the competitor's with a plaque for just competing, as if you not on the podium or buy a poster you don't have much to show.  Sorry forgot about the T-shirt.  Anyhow,  the board turn down my suggestion with the comment,  'if you want to compete in the super sport class you will need a real race car"  Hope not to have the same experience as Mike as just upgraded the rubber underneath.

Dave:  I was told that there would be no change in the 160 class category or change in tech requirements.  Since there is no longer a 155 class,  it might be a better option to open up the grand sport class?? to this speed.  I think if enough members demand this addition, the board would be more serious in considering the change.  My reasons are above.  My actual proposal as a individual was to carve out the 150 and add the 160 and designate it as the super sport division and make the 170 and 180 the pro sport division.  Of course it would make sense to add the 155 class as well.  I still believe that the 155mph class could easily fit into the grand sport class as well with the same requirements (see above)

I believe that MKM had a 155 mph class.  Their tech speed for Grand Sport was 168 (same as the tire speed rating).

I must be getting old.  Found my name in the 1999 results

Actually, MKM used to have a 155 Class at the Bonneville 100. Tech for 150 was 168 & tech for 155 was 172 (if I remember correctly). Mike Borders could answer this one with 100% certainty in a New York second!

Either way, a 155 Class with a 165 tech speed would require no additional requirements in gear or process for the SSCC tech team, and would make for one heckuva challenge for those of us who already compete in the Checkpoint Challenge between CP6 and the Finish. I'm up for it. Who's with me?

To all of you following and supporting my endeavor to add the 155mph class in the Silver State,  its going to happen!  Just received correspondence from Frank and he informed me that's  its going to happen in the Silver State Sept. 2016.  He did not give any details, but I'm hopeful that anyone in the 150 class may move up if so desired.  I'm also assuming that the grand sport rules apply.  So........ keep you ears open for the announcement.

You're too kind, Rick.  Meme and I will be running the NSX in the 120 class in September, and then I'll have to think about whether I have the courage to go 155 next Spring.  I guess that's why they call it a "challenge".

Although it will be fun to see young Mr. Lowman at the Qualifying School next month, I'll endeavor to stay out of any class either one of them chooses to run. Maybe, however, I can pick up some pointers from them!

Thanks again, Rick, for your great support for ORR!

Tom King has seen more zeros on the right side of the decimal point over the years than either one of us has even contemplated.  The idea of either of us making him nervous is about the nicest compliment anyone may have ever said about either of us in almost a decade of Open Road Racing!

I SO hope this happens! I know both Dad and I want a shot at a 155 trophy BADLY! This may cause us to get back in the car together for one more SSCC ...

Even moreso, trying to win a Checkpoint Challenge in 155 with a 165 tech speed might become the new ultimate prize in ORR! If this happens, I imagine most of those new radar guns SSCC just bought will be hidden somewhere between CP6 & the Narrows. Might be time to install the jammers out of the Cannonball car ... (just kidding)!
