No, it also went to a new home. I have a 2000 M-coupe (known by non-BMW people as a Z3M) so I decided I didn’t need both. Sad to sell the M5, a real super car. I may not be back to the SSCC either. Wife was the navigator last time, she said it was fun (once) but declined my invitation to go again. The M-coupe is better on a short road race course than down the long highway. Enjoy your silent cruising.

Hey, and what happened to the button to click on for adding my signature? You mean I have to type it in EACH time now?!! Brad, Thats pretty fast for a first timer. You need to be comfortable driving a bit faster than 125 for a part of the course to be able to average 125 for the full distance. Read my notes on "Winning at the Silver State" by clicking on the link on the title page to explain how and why. Your class will probably run between 09:00 and 10:00 AM. Nothing is ever for sure in these events. Sh_t happens, as they say! Look forward to gridding around 06:45 near the start area. Things to do?.... Adjust...

I have driven my car at 140mph for a few minutes on a straight stretch; it felt like it was on rails. I would like to try it for a little bit longer period of time, which is why I entered this race. In my younger days I used to drive between Dodge City, KS and Springfield, CO at about 130 mph a couple times a month, but now the idea of spending the night in jail slows me down; my wife would not like it very much and it would be a bad example for my kids. If I can handle driving at 140, I...

Brad, Welcome to SSCC. The rest have given you a pretty good idea of what to expect and the start time frame is pretty good. Most of our events get off on time and as such your class would likely leave the line around 8:45am - 9:15am but as stated sh...happens. To help with first timers we always offer a rookie orientation of the road and key points along with a Navagator class (which the driver can also attend) to help you get more competitive. The rookie class is given on the way to Ely on...

Jerry, I read the rules several times before I signed up, but that does not mean that I necessarily understood all of them. I understand that first time drivers can sign up for a target speed of up to 130 mph. I went with 125 because I am not sure my car will be tech'ed for Grand Sport yet, but I want to be able to do some time near 140mph. It is my intent on having the car teched for GS by May, but one never knows. If you have any specific rule in mind that I may have misunderstood, please...

I just keep my foot hard on the foot feed most of the time and bingo, there is no hop! Of course, a set of Carrera street stock shocks using stock mounts made hop a distant memory. In ORR hop is not an issue unless you have no or very, very bad shocks and or a very unbalanced tire.

Hey Jim, over the past several months I have been involved with helping SSCC administer their web page as Phil Henry's health was deteriorating. I have a lot of control of the server where it's hosted now and one thing I can say is that the info posted to this board is backed up all the time. Shocks sound like a good idea. The ones I have are new, but stock. The problem is that the car is run on the street most of the time and it never fails a young person eggs me on at an intersection. I am using home made traction bars and I know that is not right for high speed driving. What I need is a torgue arm set up or maybe your idea of good shocks and take off the bars for the SSCC.

I sort of have the wheel-hop problem: 500 wheel HP in a front-wheel drive. At sea level, 1st is a joke, and I lose traction in 2nd at about 50 mph. But I have devised a way so I don't get that problem too often: at regular intervals, my motor blows up or my car falls off the car lift so it has to wait a long time in the shop before it runs again! In fact, it seems about the only time I really get to mash the gas is at 6000' elevation, where my torque is down enough that my wheel hop isn't...

SSCC will have to address your question #2. I could write a book about the "damage" to your car question. Some hints; 1. make sure in advance of the event of your carriers' definitions, and policy relative to "rally", "race", "speed contest" and so on, 2. some insurance companies use this very web site as an "investigative" tool to determine whether they will or will not provide coverage, 3. virtually no insurance company will cover a car in a race, 4. every time anyone refers to this event...

I am attempting to go through my insurance agent to find coverage, but if insurance isn't otherwise available, it would seem that the participants in SSCC events could get together to pool their risk. I have about $22,000.00 at risk as far as my car goes. I can handle about $5,000.00 without crying too much and $22,000.00 won't kill me but it would bite. I would be happy to toss $100.00 to $200.00 or so per race into a kitty that would cover losses with respect to my car with say a $2,000.00...
