2018 NORC Intent to Register List is Filling Up FAST

Berry Lowman ·
Heads up fellow NORC & SSCC veterans, especially all of you team captains . The Intent to Register List for the 2018 NORC is filling up FAST! We have seen a tremendous surge in requests from racers over the past two weeks. The intent list has doubled in the past week alone. As of today, we're closing in on the century mark FAST . Remember, due to time constraints surrounding the longer distance, and our new two-way format, the 2018 NORC will be limited to 135 spots on the grid. Thus far,...

Bill, thanks again to you, your wife, and your daughter for taking videos from your post in the Narrows. Interesting to see the different lines. Are you going to compete again, or are you resting on your laurels as an undefeated rookie team of you and your other daughter?

Tom: I am working on Megan to encourage her to drive the rally, we'll see. By-the-way, we have an NSX in our Seductive supercars exhibit at AmericasCarMuseum where I volunteer. Also the young man standing next to you in one of the pictures in your for sale ad in the NSX forum rode with Megan and I in the parade in May, small world. ;-) Bill https://www.americascarmuseum.org/

That kid's name was Reed, and he was definitely enthusiastic and probably awed by the Batmobile ride you gave him in the parade. Tell Megan we'd love to see her in the driver's seat in the next event!

New 1/2 & 1 Mile Shootout Class Divisions Coming to 2018 SSCC

Berry Lowman ·
The new shootout class division format we introduced during the 2018 NORC weekend was so popular that we're bringing it to the SSCC event! That's right! We've changed up the format for both the 1/2 Mile and 1 Mile Shootouts to include three different class divisions. The new NORC 1/2 Mile & 1 Mile Shootout class divisions will be as follows: Street Division - All naturally aspirated (non-turbocharged and non-supercharged) vehicles will be given three passes, and whomever reaches the...

Limited Space Remaining for 2018 NORC Grid

Berry Lowman ·
Good news! You now have a wide open opportunity to grab one of the remaining spots for the limited 135 car grid in the new two-way NORC in May! While most on the 2018 NORC Intent to Register List seized the opportunity to claim their spot in the field, some folks either missed, or opted out of their priority window to register due to changing plans, work schedules, broken cars, or plain old non-responsiveness. Their loss can now be your gain. Unlike previous years, the 2018 NORC event format...

SSCC Board Statement on Tow Rigs, Start Grid Order, & Race Fuel for 2018 NORC Race Day

Berry Lowman ·
As many of you have inquired, the official SSCC Board answer on the topic of Tow Rigs, Starting Grid Order, and Race Fuel procedures will be as follows: SS Class, as well as GS through Touring Class competitors, may unload tow rigs at the Sunnyside Rest Area on Sunday AM, but ALL tow rigs must be South of the Lund cattle guard before the road officially closes at 6 AM . Otherwise, you'll have to unload at Lanes Truck Stop and drive your race vehicles South with the rest of the field. This is...

Re: SSCC Board Statement on Tow Rigs, Start Grid Order, & Race Fuel for 2018 NORC Race Day

Dave Bauer ·
Let me be the 1st SS car to ask if the Board has done the math on this. First, I thought the road closed at 5am, not 6am. If all the GS and slower cars go before the SS cars. all of the SS car will be sitting until after 10:40 if there are 120 cars at 1 minute apart. We will be sitting on the side of the road for over 5 1/2 hours. then once we go should finish 1st leg around 11:30. I do not know how long it will take to start the 2nd leg, but 1 hour sounds reasonable. If that happens the 1st...

For all those requesting that SS Class be allowed to start first, be it over speed math, timing concerns, etc., remember, the SSCC Board has weighed and debated both sides of this topic internally many times between last September and now. Both sides of the coin were considered by them. They only asked that I, as SSCC public spokesperson, relay their offical decision to all of you now as a point of clarity for this event. This statement today was prompted by your questions, and me taking it...

Thank You to All Racers & Volunteers Who Made this 1st Two-Way NORC a Success!

Berry Lowman ·
On behalf of the entire SSCC organization, we thank each and every one of you who helped make this first running of a two-way NORC a successful event! To all of you who came out to race in this event, we truly appreciate you supporting us in this new endeavor. Change isn't always easy. Yet, after 30 years of hosting our classic one-way race format, we figured you would appreciate a new challenge added to the mix for the May event. Based on all the smiles we saw on Sunday, it appears you did!

Re: 30th Anniversary SSCC Event to Feature a Father vs Son 155 Class Battle

Lanny Lowman ·
Great story. I promise to give it my best, and if I can remember to do all of the things that you remind me to do as we were coming down the road, I hope to be "Close" with my time. Racing alone in my first time out in the 150 a few years ago, I was 9 seconds off from a perfect time. I remember Dale Foust telling me later that day at the awards banquet that if I am going to keep racing that I better "Tighten Up My Times a Little". What an inspiration Dale has been and a special "Thank You"...

Yes Tom... why in 115? Do you have a vendetta against your Team Invader friend Barbara Barron who usually runs 115? I just don't think that's very gentlemanly of you treating a wonderful woman that way!! That's akin to bringing a machine gun to a water gun fight! just sayin.... Malcolm Jones

Re: 30th Anniversary SSCC Event to Feature a Father vs Son 155 Class Battle

Gee, Malcolm, you have a great point. Of course, Barbara and Jacques were only 0.0931 seconds slow in May, so they may not have much to worry about - they seem to have their own machine gun. To be fair, I did tell Barbara that I would be running 115 in case she wanted to school you guys in 150 instead ... Anyway, the answer to your question (why 115?) is complicated. I have this ridiculous conceit of wanting to win every speed class from 95 through 160, and I'm hoping to target the 115 class...
