For the last 10 years, I've been extremely fortunate to race alongside my Dad in dozens of Open Road Racing events around the country. As many of you know, along the way, we've had more than our share of close but no cigar losses, and some really incredible wins. In fact, some of our best moments together as a father and son team have happened racing down Nevada 318.
After a decade of Open Road Racing as a team, and a lifetime of racing go fast toys in some form or another, come September 17th, the Lowman boys are going to do something we've never done before. Dad and I are going to race each other head to head, in the same division, in the same class, both gunning for the same trophy. You guessed it - the 155 Class.
To make things even more interesting, I'm planning to line up on the 30th Anniversary SSCC grid in my own 2007 Corvette Z06 right alongside of Dad's 2007 Corvette Z06. If any of you happen to get a pic of that moment, I'd greatly appreciate a copy of those pics!
Horsepower and car build differences aside, it's going to be fun finding out how this Grasshopper can do versus the Master I learned along side of against the official event clock. Atop of lining up against the incredible competition the top of Grand Sport division driver's always bring, I know I have my work cut out for me going up against that guy driving car #466! This is going to be fun!
I decided to share this announcement of our plans with our ORR family in the spirit of fun, and to attempt to honor the 30th Anniversary running of the Silver State Classic Challenge with a challenge of our own.
This sport has created so many great bonding moments for us, and brought so many wonderful new friends into our lives, I thought it only fitting to try and put on a bit of a side show in the midst of the big race as a fun way to honor all of you who have rooted for us, helped us along the way when we were down, and always supported our father and son racing efforts with your kind words and big hugs, in times of victory, as well as defeat.
While we know that either of us will be lucky to get anywhere near that 155 Class podium again, those of you who know us best, know that both Dad and I want to win that 155 trophy, badly.
That said, there's no one I'd be happier to run second to than my father, and there's also no one I'd like to outrun more, just this once! Either way, I already feel like we've won just by being in this race, in this moment, with all of you, our extended racing family.
We hope y'all enjoy our little Father versus Son showdown in the middle of the 30th Anniversary SSCC festivities. Best of luck to all who plan on lining up on that grid, and here's hoping you all find your own moments of victory.
