NORC 2016 on British TV

Hi all from London, where summer has finally arrived.  We're hoping to be back in the USA in 2017, and we might re-import the same Cayman that we brought to the NORC in 2010 (sadly Hermina's 105mph-winning Civic from 2009 is long gone)

I gather that Guy Martin joined you all in May to drive his van.  Britain's Channel 4 will be showing it this weekend, and I'll see if I can post a screenshot or two without being beaten up by Channel 4's copyright enforcement squad.

Funnily enough, Guy Martin is back in the Southwest right now, in order to take back one of the very few Land Speed Records that is not already in British hands...

Simon, it will be good to see you both next year!  And it was great fun meeting Guy Martin and his TV crew when they were here.  Guy had to borrow Frank McKinnon's Mustang to go through Qualifying School (kudos to Frank for doing this!) because his Ford van was suffering some issue at the time.  In spite of the stress, Guy seemed like a down-to-earth bloke whose fame didn't seem to have gone to his head.

Now for the Civic Lesson:

For those of you who don't know, for the 2009 NORC, Simon "borrowed" Hermina's Honda Civic  (and graciously let her navigate for him).  He asked me what the rated top speed was of the Civic, and upon hearing the answer of 109 mph, he blithely entered the 105 class.  He said he had his foot to the floor the entire time, and he neglected to inform Hermina that the red over-temp light had come on for good upon encountering the Narrows.  Naturally, they came in too slow.  They were 0.115 seconds slow, taking first in class, one of many trophies in many different cars for Simon and Hermina.
