155 is the new 150!

Berry Lowman ·
Looks like Santa dropped off one last, wonderful gift! Better than a Red Ryder BB gun! Have you read the new, hot off the presses, 2017 SSCC Rules yet? When you do, check out the latest class addition to the Grand Sport section. 155 is now listed as the top speed class without having to go the full build of Super Sport or Unlimited route. GAME ON, Y'ALL! Thank you to Bunny, and everyone on the SSCC board who supported adding this awesome challenge! Thank you to all fellow competitors who...

With the new speed class wondering if I run 150 in May can I run 160 in the fall or would I have to do 155 first?

Hi Mike, Seems the 2017 Rules book answers your question nicely: "Drivers in the Super Sport Division – 160 Class - must have prior successful SSCC driving experience in the 150/155 mph class or a waiver from the SSCC."

30th Anniversary SSCC Event to Feature a Father vs Son 155 Class Battle

Berry Lowman ·
For the last 10 years, I've been extremely fortunate to race alongside my Dad in dozens of Open Road Racing events around the country. As many of you know, along the way, we've had more than our share of close but no cigar losses, and some really incredible wins. In fact, some of our best moments together as a father and son team have happened racing down Nevada 318. After a decade of Open Road Racing as a team, and a lifetime of racing go fast toys in some form or another, come September...

Gee, Malcolm, you have a great point. Of course, Barbara and Jacques were only 0.0931 seconds slow in May, so they may not have much to worry about - they seem to have their own machine gun. To be fair, I did tell Barbara that I would be running 115 in case she wanted to school you guys in 150 instead ... Anyway, the answer to your question (why 115?) is complicated. I have this ridiculous conceit of wanting to win every speed class from 95 through 160, and I'm hoping to target the 115 class...

Great story. I promise to give it my best, and if I can remember to do all of the things that you remind me to do as we were coming down the road, I hope to be "Close" with my time. Racing alone in my first time out in the 150 a few years ago, I was 9 seconds off from a perfect time. I remember Dale Foust telling me later that day at the awards banquet that if I am going to keep racing that I better "Tighten Up My Times a Little". What an inspiration Dale has been and a special "Thank You"...

Oh great, now there are two Lowman entries. I guess I can no longer just trust to luck against them. Can you tell why I'm in 115 mph this time instead of 155? Good luck to you both!

Yes Tom... why in 115? Do you have a vendetta against your Team Invader friend Barbara Barron who usually runs 115? I just don't think that's very gentlemanly of you treating a wonderful woman that way!! That's akin to bringing a machine gun to a water gun fight! just sayin.... Malcolm Jones

Tom, you got the better of us in May, so our hats are still tipped toward you. We'll miss you in 155 this time around. It's always a bigger challenge when we get to line up against the best of the best! That said, I've got a feeling 155 is going to be stacked with skinny numbers guys this time...
